Key changes in the new NHS Give Blood app

We are updating the app so that we can give you a better experience when booking and managing your appointment. We are making the changes based on research with, and feedback from, you - our donors.

The updated version of the app will have the same design standard as the NHS app which will make it more accessible and user-friendly.

A new look to the app

When you log in, if you have donated before, you will see when you can donate next, information about your blood group, what type of donations you’ve made and how many credits you have achieved for your donations to date.

Your next appointment is also displayed on the home screen and you can see the location of the venue you’ve booked to donate at by using the View on a map link. You can also add your future appointments to the calendar on your phone. If you need to change your booking, you can do so via the landing page.

At the bottom of the screen, you will find a navigation bar with a Home button. You will have easy access to manage and view your appointments from here.

The guidance section of the app will give you the most up-to-date information about giving blood and you can also check if you are eligible to donate.

If you want to find out more about your blood type, you can watch a short video using the About you part of the navigation bar. If you haven't yet donated then please check back once you have for your video.

You can manage your Settings of the app in the righthand corner at the bottom of the app.

Getting hold of the new app

In August, if you already have the app installed, it will automatically update if your device is set to auto update apps. Otherwise, you will need to manually install the update via your App Store, Google Play store or Apple App store.

Your login details will remain the same but if you use Facebook or Apple ID to sign in, please keep in mind that social login support will not be available initially at launch. You will be able to use your email address and original password to sign in. If you can’t remember these details, please use the forgotten details link in the app.

After the initial release, we will follow up with some exciting new features that will make it even easier to browse and book appointments. As we progress, updates will be made to the NHS Give Blood app web page at https://bit.ly/3epsdMM
