Our new NHS Give Blood app

We’ve updated our app to make it easier to search for and book your next appointment.

In August, we launched a new version of the NHS Give Blood app which you can download from the app store now if your phone has not automatically downloaded it already.

The new app has several technical developments that will improve its performance and your experience. Key features such as appointment booking have been updated as well as the overall look and feel, making it even more intuitive to use.

Improving the digital experience

Most donors find the best way to book their appointments is either online or through the NHS Give Blood app. Knowing this is an important part of the overall experience after listening to feedback from donors, we are starting to improve this with the launch of the new app.

The updated version of the app will have the same design standard as the NHS app which will make it more accessible and user-friendly. We’ll also be looking to bring this standard across the entire digital experience in the coming months so it's even more seamless. For now, social log in won’t be available so if you use Facebook or Apple ID to sign in, you’ll need to use your original registered email and password. If you can’t remember these details, please use the forgotten details link in the app.

Booking your next appointment

When you log in, if you have donated before, you will see when you can donate next, information about your blood group, what type of donations you’ve made and how many credits you have achieved for your donations to date.

Your next appointment is also displayed on the home page and you can see the location of the venue you’ve booked to donate at by using the View on a map link. You can also add your future appointments to the calendar on your phone. If you need to change your booking, you can do so via the home page.

At the bottom of the screen, you will find a navigation bar with an Appointment button. You will have easy access to manage and view your appointments from here.

The guidance section of the app will give you the most up-to-date information about giving blood and you can also check if you are eligible to donate.

If you want to find out more about your blood type, you can watch a short video using the About you part of the navigation bar. If you haven't yet donated, then please check back once you have for your video.

You can manage your app Settings in the right-hand corner of the navigation bar at the bottom of the app.
