Farewell to Steve
We are very sorry to hear that semi-professional footballer, Steve Essex, 58, has died. He was diagnosed with cancer last summer and during his treatment received more than 20 blood transfusions.
As a result, he became a blood donation campaigner in the final year of his life, having previously been a frequent donor himself – reaching nearly 50 donations.
Steve played for various Midlands clubs, appearing at Wembley and sharing the pitch with some of the giants of the game. There’s a photo of him ruffling Fabricio Ravanelli’s hair.
He fought until the final whistle. RIP Steve.
