Response to Manchester incident

25 May 2017

Mike Stredder, Director of Blood Donation at NHS Blood and Transplant said:

“Our thoughts are with the people affected by Monday’s tragic events.

“In the hours following the incident, our Blood Centre in Manchester responded to requests for blood from the hospitals treating the casualties. We were able to provide these vital supplies due to having good blood stocks thanks to our loyal donors who come to give blood throughout the year.

“Blood stocks are still healthy, but as always, we are asking donors who have an appointment to do their best to keep it.

“I’d also like to say thanks to all those people who came to our donor centres on Tuesday offering to donate. If you’ve been inspired to help others by giving blood, now would be a good time to register and make your first appointment to give blood over the coming weeks.”
