What’s the best way for you to donate?
Every blood type is important. Your blood type could mean you can help patients even more if you give in a different way, like platelets or plasma.
Answer a few quick questions using our checker, and we'll tell you the best way for you to donate based on:
- whether you've donated before
- your blood type
- your nearest donor centre

Other ways to donate
As well as donating blood, plasma or platelets, you can also sign up to help in other ways.
Stem cell donation
If you’re aged 17 to 40, you can choose to join the NHS Stem Cell Registry when you donate blood, platelets or plasma.
Stem cell transplants treat people with serious blood cancers and disorders. Most patients can only find a match from someone with a similar tissue type.
Just tell staff at your next appointment if you’d like to join. We’ll take a small extra sample and only contact you if you’re a match.
We especially need more people from Black, Asian and other diverse ethnic backgrounds to join the register.
Organ donation
Most of us would accept and organ if we needed one. If you decide to give an organ you could save or transform the life of someone else.
Anyone can register a decision to become an organ donor after death, there is no age limit.
You can choose to donate either some or all of your organs, and could save up to 9 lives.
