Your donation

By being a regular donor you'll be doing your bit to help save lives all over the country. Hospitals in England and North Wales currently need about 10,000 blood donations every day for life-saving operations and procedures. Only 6% of the population give blood regularly, so you can see how important your contribution is, and we ask our regular donors to give blood three times a year.

It's all about partnership. With our donors, we've established a partnership based on trust, honesty and respect. Donors give their blood, knowing that it'll be put to the best use and collected by the best equipment and techniques to protect their health. We've even consulted with our donors to help us draw up a charter to show how seriously we take things.

1. To put the health and comfort of donors first.

2. To carry out interviews for health screening in private.

3. To inform donors of any test results that may be important to their health or affect their ability to donate blood.

4. To treat all information about donors in the strictest confidence.

5. To ensure donors' blood is used to benefit patients and not for financial profit.

6. To provide suitable and convenient venues for donors to give blood.

7. To make every effort to keep waiting times to a minimum.

8. To arrange donor sessions at convenient times and to give donors adequate notice.

9. To ensure that donors are made to feel welcome and at ease at all times.

10. To welcome donors' comments and suggestions on any aspects of the National Blood Service and to respond quickly to any complaints.
