It’s really important for ethnic people to give blood, and get on the bone marrow register, and donate blood and cells. Just because there are so few of us doing it. When you think about the amount of people that are ill in the community, and actually need help. You don’t actually think it’s important until it affects someone that you know. Someone in your family, a friend of yours, and at those times you’ll realise how important it is. I do it myself, I do it every two months. It’s really quick and easy, it takes ten minutes and it’s one of those ways that you can give back if you’re not filthy rich and can’t give thousands to charity. So it’s your way of giving back, it’s a great cause.

It’s important for African Caribbean’s to give blood to the community because the only way we can help each other is by giving blood. We can’t get blood from anybody else and statistically we are very poor blood givers. I’ve donated; I’m on the register, so I would urge everyone. It costs nothing, it’s painless. As someone who is lucky enough to receive the red carpet treatment I know that VIPs are ordinary people just like everyone else. I also know that there is one thing that unites all Afro Caribbean people and makes us all very important people, our blood. Only we can solve the very short supply of blood available to our community. We all need to fulfil our VIP potential and give blood. Somebody somewhere needs what you’ve got and someday you might be the one in need for a VIP Together we will save lives.
