Blood Transfusion
NHS Blood and Transplant manages the national voluntary donation system for blood and supplies around 2 million units of blood a year to hospitals in England and north Wales.
This section of the site provides information for the public and patients about blood transfusion. Having sound knowledge upon which to base decisions ensures you are able to make an informed choice about your care and treatment. Specialist Therapeutic Services
NHS Blood and Transplant's (NHSBT) Specialist Therapeutic Services' function has a long history of providing life-saving and life-enhancing therapeutic services to the patients.
Specialist Therapeutic Services (STS) provides over 1200 patients each year with access to a portfolio of therapies using technology that exchanges, removes, or collects certain components within the blood.
STS delivers its services from six therapeutic units that are based within NHS Trusts and which operate an outpatient model for non-acute patient procedures.
Units are located in the following NHS Trusts:
- The Christie NHS Foundation Trust
- North Bristol NHS Trust
- Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust
- Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
- Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
- Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust
