Kalpna Patel

Kalpna Patel suffers from Sickle Cell Beta Thalassaemia. As a young child Kalpna received a complete blood exchange transfusion and says, ‘It actually saved my life’. Thanks to the transfusion Kalpna is able to lead a fulfilling and normal life. She’s hugely passionate about raising awareness of the importance of donating blood, particularly amongst the South Asian communities; she works as the Fundraising Manager for the Sickle Cell Society, and on her next birthday will ask her friends and family to donate blood, rather than giving her gifts.
